mountain house food on the way

I got a shipping confirmation from mountain house today. They shipped half of what I ordered from JCRefuge back in March(?). Anyone else get thiers yet?

On a related note I ordered some pouches from mountain houses website. They still have a few of the marine cuisine pouches on clearance. They also have pouches of freeze dried fruit. I haven't seen these before, are they new? I wonder if they are going to sell these in cans.

Same here, ordered in March - was told late May for delivery.

FYI - Sports Authority has singel serving packets for sale, might be good for someone wanting to try the entrees before buying.

Got notice from a local trucking company this past Friday that a pallet of mine would be here tommorrow......19 cases on the pallet of the 25 I ordered. Remainder will probably come UPS is my guess.

Yep, almost time to exhale. Last week, MH completed their full #10 can production cycle (starting again now of course) since being depleted March 15.

All backorders are shipping within the next couple of weeks. We should have all food delivered and in customers' hands by the end of the month.

Thanks for your patience, folks!

"Shipping" by mid-May, Ponce. Your order is shipping next week -- May 22, 23 -- (at the far end of the "mid-May" definition, but still within that range).

The largest orders are shipping last.

I just heard that white rice is out of stock for a couple of weeks, so now it looks like the white rice will deliver in early June.

That's part of the appeal for many folks, MerryL ... if need be, you can lug a lot of meals around, pound for pound and cubic inch for cubic inch. Just stir in some water, eat, and you're fueled up for the next leg of your journey.

But yes, it is telling to realize how much water is in any kind of meal--plant or animal. Take it out and you're left with less than 5% of the mass.

Ponce, I understand Ready Reserve foods are dehydrated, as opposed to freeze dried as MH foods are. According to the Ready Reserve site, their shelf life ranges from 7-15 years. (Mountain House is officially good for 30+ years.)

Re: mountain house food on the way

Yep ... not necessarily the smartest customer relations move, but I believe they're trying to move as many back orders out as fast as possible, meaning the smaller backorders, that originated within that two-week period after March 15, are getting pushed en masse out the door last week and this week--most going via UPS. Those of us in the same period with the largest orders will get shipped next week by freight.

Re: mountain house food on the way

Picked this up today......19 cases shipped common carrier.

JC: Any way to get a tracking number on the remaining 6 cases, which I assume will be coming UPS ?.... the packing list with this pallet had UPS typed in as shipping method, then crossed out and the ComCarrier name written in....which is how it came.

Re: mountain house food on the way

TN Andy--sorry, I don't get shipping tracking info from MH.

Ponce--You're getting me nervous, friend. The food is on the way. I can still cancel the order and refund your full purchase price right now if that's what you want. We are on schedule and all parties involved have been pulling out all stops to get an absolutely huge amount of food out to the customers. I mean absolutely, we are all doing our utmost to provide quantities of food that are beyond present U.S. capacity to deliver. Capacity is now fully engaged and then some.

Ponce, you've waited for two months and are about to get what you wanted at what remains unheard-of prices. If you are dissatisfied with your transaction at any time, you need only contact me and I will make you happy. It's really very easy and I aim to be the best guy in this market niche to do business with. So far, I've done pretty darn good toward that goal.

I continue to work new and better discount deals on this food and other merchandise. I'm hoping to be able to continue to bring these best deals on the net to this forum, if we can all agree that it's worth doing and we keep each other happy. Enough said.

I'm still a relatively small player in the market and it's not out of the question that I'll do $1M in Mountain House sales-alone this year. Consider what the big guys are doing out there to Mountain House and the other few emergency storage producers. And we haven't even begun to provide the food the vast majority of the population is going to be demanding in a very short time.

Anyone getting their food in the near term is going to be light years ahead of those who wait more than a few more months. (I don't usually make prognostications like that, but this H5N1 situation makes things pretty clear about where market demands are headed. And of course, there are several other wild cards in the deck.)

Next Opportunity:

Yesterday I was the first company Oregon Freeze Dry (the parent of Mountain House) approached with a couple of brand new developing surplus government food deals involving freeze dried uncooked eggs and pork chops--foods that are not otherwise available to the general public. If TN Andy contacts me about how I can provide more details on this--I do have to talk with him about a couple of things before I'll be able to offer them here.

Just spoke with my MH manager ... she confirmed that all our remaining orders are releasing and shipping early next week.

That is, except for white rice, green beans, and diced chicken, which we have already again depleted and which will ship separately within one to two weeks when they are again back in stock.

JC Refuge 05-18-2006 10:20 PM

Re: mountain house food on the way

PLEASE NOTE:

No one gets advance notice except by "executive order and in the event of extreme hardship" ... and very special requests by the customer. It puts a great deal of stress on MH and literally bogs down the speed with which they are able to actually process orders. They quite simply are not staffed to do customer service like this. I am your customer service guy, for better or for worse.

Reiterating--The MH system and set-up is NOT equipped to track and report orders except in the event of obvious malfunctions. Why do we get dirt-cheap pricing? Because the overhead is very low, meaning you don't get all the bells and whistles you have come to expect with some slick hi-tech companies out there. Yes, you do pay for that.

Once again, I need to be very plain about this--Please do NOT contact MH for status reports on your orders--contact me. I do not mind customers who are high-maintenance, but what is difficult and very counter-productive is folks who contact MH directly. It is not what MH wants to do. They want to process food and ship it. Their distributors sell the food and interface with customers. We are obliged to find customers who are fine with doing business that way. Or else we are no longer welcome as their distributors.

Re: mountain house food on the way

My notice on the 19 cases I got was from the trucking company, who called about 4 days ahead to tell me that it would be in their terminal on such and such date......they were calling mainly to schedule home delievery. I told them it was easier for me if they just held it at the terminal, and I'd come pick it up...which is what we did.

The remaining 6 cases of my order I assume will come UPS....I know the driver and he will take care of me if I'm not home.....we have a 'system' for delieveries that way.

Hi Waylon. Have a look at my two standard packages listed here: http://stores.ebay.com/REFUGE-offere...QQftidZ2QQtZkm

The GIM discounted prices I can get you (don't buy thru the store for these prices) are:

$2399 for the 150-can package

$759 for the 48-can package

There were some lower prices available only in the month of March due to a promotional error made by Mountain House. Nonetheless, you'll be very hard pressed to find anything near these current prices anywhere else.

As for Mountain House's taste--you might be best served to do a search out there. I think you'll find that MH is the best storage/camping food available anywhere. The taste consistently comes out on top in taste tests, is voted the food to use on outdoor adventures by Camping/Climbing, etc. mags and experts, and it is rated at a 30+ year shelf life. There's nothing else quite like it out there. All you need to do to eat it is clean water. Most varieties are precooked so you don't even need to heat it up if that is an issue.

At the moment, I'd expect fulfillment to be in the 4-5 week timeframe, but we are quickly experiencing increasing demand again now that the longer-term backorders are disappearing. (Their full #10 can inventory was wiped out March 15 by consumer demand anticipating a pandemic, among other concerns.)

Email me at jcrefuge@safecastle.net with questions or to arrange a purchase.

I got all my boxes yesterday. They taped some of the boxes to each other so there would be less packages.

The shipping notice I got was with QuantumView, which I automated and I think is tied to their shipping system. I also place another order for pouches through Mountain House's web site just before they shipped the order from march and they shipped it all together. I think that is the reason that I got the shipping notice.

I do wish companies that sell obviously preparedness-related items wouldn't ship in boxes that advertise what the customer is ordering! Any of you worried about how obvious and possibly memorable a large shipment of freeze-dried food is?

I ordered mine gradually, over a couple of years. When the UPS drivers sort of asked about the order (you know, read the company's name off the box and sort of paused in a questioning way...), I told them that I order supplies for a family member's hunting club's camp that doesn't have electricity. Told them since I was home some weekdays during daytime hours, I said I'd take delivery of stuff members ordered as long as they'd come get quickly it so it doesn't clutter up my basement. I hope it explains the ammo cases, too! I was getting scary visions of a convoy of hungry UPS drivers and all their family and friends showing up when TSHTF!

That's good. In one of the pics above, it looks like the boxes say Mountain House on them. I was specifically talking about this group of orders, though. Most of the boxes of food I've ordered (not Mountain House---the flavor enhancers in Mountain House give me horrendous migraines!) have had the company's name emblazoned on the sides. I ordered a lot from Emergency Essentials, for example, and every box had their suspicious-sounding name printed on the side.

Whenever my house sells, I'll be moving temporarily into an apartment. I doubt that I'll even cover up the Mountain House food. I'll probably just put it on my hand truck and wheel it up to the apartment. If the grocery stores didn't have any food, I'd cover it with plastic before I moved it. But right now, I'm not concerned about it. Most people don't know what Mountain House is.....

That's what worries me. He seemed to buy the hunting camp story, though. With luck, I'll be long gone before he gets here. If not, he can have those cans of Mountain House I ordered before I knew I can't eat them and the Ramen noodles I also can't eat but bought to foist off on needy people if I have to look like a caring neighbor. :haha:Seriously, I'm sure I've got him outgunned...

Yep, they're still cleaning up the last straggling varieties for some of our March orders. Still no worries ... we're good.

I'm not losing track of anyone's food ... I have to wait for about another week to see what they are still shipping (I get the invoices a week after they ship.) Then, I will get with them on any orders that I show as still missing cases.

It seems they are getting about 98% of the orders filled with no follow-up needed from me. But there is the occasional order that I need to point out to them that still needs a little something to close out.

Keep hanging in there if you're missing anything. And if you feel the need, let me know now if you're still lacking--I will have no problem pinging them right away at this point.

(Ponce--you are correct--I know your order still has two cases coming.)
